2nd ThatFellow Awards: Technical Categories

In this second post of my second annual ThatFellow Awards, here are my picks for the technical categories which does not include makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, and original song. Best Film Editing:

  1. Cloud Atlas (Alexander Berner)
  2. Zero Dark Thirty (William Goldenberg & Dylan Tichenor)
  3. Argo (William Goldenberg)
  4. Silver Linings Playbook (Jay Cassidy & Crispin Struthers)
  5. The Master (Leslie Jones & Peter McNulty)

How I see best film editing is when a movie flows without us noticing it, even it’s just 90 minutes long or over two hours. Zero Dark Thirty and Argo excel in this, especially with the raid scene and the plane interrogation scene, respectively. I put Silver Linings Playbook here for its energetic and fast editing making its two hours run fly by. I like The Master for its own merit. But the champion here is Berner’s work in tying up six different stories in Cloud Atlas. It’s a difficult task to jumping from one story to another for three hours long without making it boring or confusing, but Berner nails it.
